THE REALITY OF CLIMATE CHANGE
“ECO-Media – Community Media for E-Volunteering on Climate Change”
European summer is a magical time where the opportunities are endless, to go on adventures, explore beaches, and hike the numerous hills and mountains. There are so many wonders to appreciate from the fjords of Scandinavia, to the historical cities of the Danube and the coastline of the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. Unfortunately, the reality of extreme heat waves hitting France as early as June, forest fires raging across Spain, and 284 suffered by Greece in one week, as well as, the record breaking drought northern Italy forces us to reassess our way of living and take immediate action to combat climate change so that our magical summers do not turn into devasting times of disaster.
EFFECTING CHANGE WITH THE ECO-MEDIA PROJECT
Wisefour is proud to be working on a project that aims to counter the negative effects of climate change called ECO-MEDIA – Community Media for E-Volunteering on Climate Change. The project is a highly innovative 24-month project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
This project was developed based on the premise that youth are beacons of hope for the future and their active engagement in volunteering activities is crucial to action the positive changes that we strive to achieve in European society and across the world. There are many factors that are transforming the way volunteering is carried out and it is important to maximise on these changes to achieve a sustainable volunteering landscape all whilst addressing the threat of climate change.
ECO-Media specifically aims to provide training to professionals working with youth, by focusing on using community media as a tool to enhance the quality of their work and communication, to empower young people, and raise awareness on other volunteering approaches, specific to e-volunteering and digital activism, with a focus on climate change.
