DELOS Project – Training in the use of alternative sources and in management and operation of biogas plants

DELOS Project aims to promote the process of anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste (eg from olive processing, cheese-making, animal husbandry) as a promising waste treatment process with a high content of organic matter. Anaerobic digestion can offer effective solutions to waste treatment while producing energy and offering environmentally safe by-products (compost, irrigation water). Although anaerobic digestion is the latest technology in wastewater treatment and anaerobic treatment of industrial waste, it is not yet widely used.

The purpose of the project, therefore, is to raise awareness about the environmental problem of agricultural waste disposal and to inform about the benefits of the anaerobic digestion process. This process is presented as a solution for the general public (engineers, environmentalists, other scientists) as well as for those interested who can benefit from this knowledge. The program also envisages the possible implementation of the innovative methodology in cooperation with potential investors. The target audience is the general public, local stakeholders, local policy makers as well as potential investors.

The main objectives of the training is to inform about the environmental problem of agricultural waste management (liquid waste from olive mills, animal manure, whey) and to promote the proposed anaerobic fusion technology.

DELOS aims to contribute to the improvement of education and training on the subject mentioned above, offering comprehensive and high-quality educational content as well as a digital tool that will facilitate the certification of skills.

Start date 1/10/2013 – End date 30/9/2015.
