Empowering Women for Better Employment
WHY SHOULD WOMEN BE EMPOWERED?
Empower is a multidimensional word including social, physical, spiritual, mental, political and psychological dimensions. In the 21st century, women still shoulder a heavier burden of unpaid domestic labour when compared to their male peers.
OECD data indicates that within the EU, only 68 percent of women aged between 20 and 64 are in work, this is 10 percent less than that of men. The economic benefits of closing this gap are an estimated €370bn a year.
In a recent publication by the Financial Times, it was said by Chidi Kind, Chief of the International Labour Organisation’s gender, equality, diversity and inclusion branch that “European countries have much to gain from untapping the potential of women’s equitable participation in the labour market. It would provide a much-needed boost for economies facing multiple crises, including population ageing, labour shortages, cost-of-living and geopolitical crises.”
The “EMPOWERED – Empowering Women for Better Employment” project is doing its part to ensure that women are empowered with the opportunity of being employed whilst navigating all spheres of life, including the various hats or labels they have to wear such as ‘mommy’, ‘cook’, ‘homemaker’, ‘wife’, ‘caregiver’, ‘friend’, ‘sister’ etc., and improving their career trajectory through the development of an innovative training course.
EMPOWERED is a project that allows women transformational personal growth in decision-making, analysing critical situations, coping with all circumstances and facing challenges.
CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY
One of the latest developments for the EMPOWERED project included the Multiplier Event that took place in Cyprus in the village of Fasoula at R-Place. The Wisefour team collaborated with the Cyprus International Women of Today (CIWOT) to implement this successful event. CIWOT exists to help the local community, to help women become better leaders, strengthen individual talents, provide friendship and networking.
Existing CIWOT members and non-members were invited to register their attendance prior to the event to join Wisefour for an insightful Saturday on 20 May 2023. CIWOT and Wisefour distributed invitations via their social media channels to generate interest amongst the target audience.
PRESENTING THE EMPOWERED PROJECT
Wisefour proudly presented the EMPOWERED Multiplier Event and started off the seminar by introducing the women to the EMPOWERED Erasmus Plus project, including what the project is about, the objectives and the results. In the next stage of the session, we shared the developments of the EMPOWERED training programme by highlighting the structure and overview of the 12 modules that partners have developed using their expertise. These modules are grouped into two main categories, namely, Digital Mindset and Soft Skills. The value and opportunities offered by these modules were also highlighted for those who would like to utilize the intellectual offering in the near future. Those in attendance had the opportunity to engage in an interactive workshop by testing one of the modules of the training programme to tangibly internalize what the EMPOWERED project represents and the impact that it can provide to their professional and personal lives. The event concluded by introducing the women to the next phases of the project that will be presented to women in Cyprus, and in other consortium partner countries.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR EMPOWERED
The events for EMPOWERED include the upcoming piloting event of the training modules, handbook workshop for adult education teachers and trainers, CSO, coaches, career councellors etc, and second multiplier event that will share the final conclusions, aiming at ensuring the sustainability of the project results.

The project is being implemented in Italy through the ERASMUS+ Programme and collaboration of organization Asociatia Culturala ARTEC (Romania), COMUNE DI CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO (Italy), Found.ation Maker’s Place Private Company (Greece), Mindshift Talent Advisory lda (Portugal) and Wisefour Innovation and Development Organisation Ltd (Cyprus).
